E's Reviews: Spider-Man - Into The Spider-Verse
SPIDER-MAN - INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE is an animated film directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman and stars the vocal talents of Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Jake Johnson as Peter Benjamin Parker, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, John Mulaney as Spider-Ham, Kimiko Glenn as Peni Parker, Nicolas Cage (OMG!) as Spider-Man Noir, as well as Mahershala Ali, Lily Tomlin, Zoe Kravitz, Liev Schriber, and Chris Pine. And...yes...Stan Lee...
Welcome to Brooklyn, where Spider-Man is loved, there are comic books about his real life, there are stores dedicated to selling his merchandise, and he's been New York City's protector for a decade. But when young Miles Morales gets bitten by a radioactive spider, he must come together with heroes from alternate universes to stop all of existence from getting wiped out. And holy cow what an adventure! This film was handled with a lot of care and time, and they really did try to cater to the Spider-Man fans everywhere. Let's dig in shall we?
Nothing bad! Moving on!
Alright let's start with the animation style. It's amazing. The movement was fluid, everything looked amazing on screen, and they made it flow and feel like I was watching a comic book, as if my imagination took over and I was seeing what I was reading come alive. The voice cast is superb! Shameik Moore does an incredible job as Miles Morales, which is a character from the comics I wasn't a huge fan of at first, but am now definitely going to dig in and read more about. The music is addictive and fun throughout, there's some amazing action elements in this film with really crazy fights that had me staring with my mouth agape. Then there's the jokes...there are so many great comedic moments that made this one of the more fun films in the Marvel universe of films. There are also some really intense dramatic moments that had me and even the people sitting around me, in tears (you'll see which moments I'm talking about...one of them had me completely floored...)
The villains, the heroes, the voice acting (Nic Cage! WHAT!?), the music, the action...everything in this film is perfect for fans of the comics, for children of all ages, for new-comers who are curious about it...and I really am wishing we could see a live action Miles Morales now team up with Tom Holland's Peter Parker. This is something we need, Marvel... Go see it, it opens this weekend!
Final Score: 10/10
